The College of Science is honoring Dr. Stanley Zoltek, a professor engrained in the Departments of Mathematics, Physics & Astronomy, and Computational and Data Sciences since 1980. Dr. Zoltek passed away on February 25, 2018.

After graduating with his PhD in Mathematics from SUNY Stony Brook in 1976, Stan joined George Mason as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, and was promoted to Associate Professor without term in 1986. Stan began working with the School of Computational Sciences in 2002, only to then serve as the inaugural Director of IT and Computing when the College of Science was formed in 2006.

The Stanley Zoltek Memorial Scholarship recognizes Stan’s active participation across multiple college and university endeavors, from educator to long-term member of the Faculty Senate. Despite his physical challenges, Stan worked diligently to participate at a high level, provide a more enriched learning experience for our students, and a better working community for his colleagues.

Stan’s dedication and service at George Mason and in the College of Science will be remembered with gratitude.
