George Mason University has arguably grown faster than any other American university. The question now becomes: how do we take that growth farther?

Now nearly two years into a 10-year strategic plan, the university celebrates the launch this week of “Faster Farther: The Campaign for George Mason University,” its largest-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign, which hails Mason’s extraordinary accomplishments as well as the university’s bold plans for what’s next.

“We’ve done the work to plan for the university’s future,” said Mason President Ángel Cabrera. “Now it’s time to ensure we can achieve those goals. We cannot do it alone—we need the support of our entire community. This campaign is our rallying cry for Mason’s future.”

The $500 million campaign, which includes last year’s record-breaking fundraising year, continues through 2018. It seeks to raise funds for four critical priorities:

• Students: By improving access to higher education and providing students with the best possible experience while they are here, we will prepare future generations for success.

• Research: Recruiting, retaining, and rewarding Mason’s stellar faculty and enabling them to lead groundbreaking research initiatives will be critical to the university’s future.

• Campus: Our campus presence in Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William County offers a gathering place for the Northern Virginia community, adding to the region’s intellectual and cultural life. New and renovated facilities ensure those connections will deepen and grow.

• The Future: Providing the university with long-term financial stability means the institution can transcend economic uncertainty.

“We have the backing of thousands of Patriots who believe in this university,” said Janet E. Bingham, vice president of advancement and alumni relations and president of the George Mason University Foundation. “We are ready to build this bright future for Mason.”

“George Mason University has never been better positioned to hit this goal, and I’m confident we can do it with our community’s support,” said James W. Hazel, JD ’84, campaign chair and chair of the George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees. “It’s an honor to be a part of this campaign as an alumnus, and I look forward to others joining me in supporting Mason’s next phase.”

The effort’s public launch is being celebrated September 16 at 3 p.m. in Dewberry Hall on the Fairfax Campus. There was also a kickoff celebration at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts on Sept. 12.
