SUPPORT

ATHLETICS

From 1985 when Mason won its first national title in women’s soccer, to 2006 when the men’s basketball team became the first mid-major to advance to the Final Four, to today, the Mason athletics program has been a source of Patriot pride.

Mason Strong

Our university’s commitment to athletics is strong. We place a high value on preparing our well-rounded student-athletes for success. A strong athletics program improves student life, contributes to a strong sense of community on and off campus, and acts as a catalyst for the economic and cultural vibrancy of our region. It also offers a strong draw to some of the brightest and most talented prospective students in search of a comprehensive higher education experience.

Priority Funding Needs

  • checks
    Basketball Practice Facility
    (phase 1: $1 million)

Due to the multiple uses of the EagleBank Arena, the men’s and women’s basketball teams rarely practice there, instead competing to schedule practice time at open courts in the student Recreational Athletic Complex (RAC). We plan an addition to the RAC to provide a dedicated basketball practice facility for both teams. This multi-year investment will bring our teams closer to parity with other universities in the big-time Atlantic 10.

  • checks
    Academic Support Center
    ($3 million)

We will enhance our academic support center to serve all of our student-athletes so they can continue to excel in the classroom and in life.

  • checks
    Scholarship Support
    ($2.5 million)

As we aspire for success in academics and athletics, our more than 500 student-athletes are more reliant than ever on private financial support. We seek scholarship support for all of our programs enabling our coaches to recruit the best student-athletes in the country. Our goal is to fill the gap between the levels of currently funded scholarship in our 22 sports ($5.5 million) and the maximum number allowed by the NCAA ($8 million).
