The George Mason University Foundation, Inc. (GMUF) conveyed their appreciation and gratitude to four members of GMUF Board of Trustees as their service came to an end this June. “We are genuinely grateful to these members, who so willingly shared their time, leadership, and expertise with George Mason,” said Trishana E. Bowden, GMUF president and George Mason University vice president for advancement and alumni relations. “Every single one of them brought valuable perspectives, knowledge, and wisdom to the GMUF using their passion to support George Mason students.”
These board members have served the foundation, the university, and the George Mason community in numerous ways and in many different roles. They have joined committees, served in volunteer positions, helped to establish student scholarships, and much more. Their contributions were invaluable to the growth and expansion of George Mason, all playing such an instrumental part in the university’s story.
Michael E. Stievater, served on the Board of Trustees for eight years. During his tenure, he served on the Finance and Real Estate Committee for three years and held several key leadership roles, including treasurer for two years, vice chair from 2021 to 2022, and chair from 2022 to 2024. In addition to his service on the Board, Mike has also contributed to George Mason as an adjunct professor in the College of Business, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with our students.
Kenneth D. Reid, BS ’72, completed his ninth year on the foundation’s Board of Trustees, serving on the Finance and Real Estate Committee. He has partnered with George Mason’s Career Services to mentor students on career placement and served as president of the Alumni Association from 1988 to 1989 Additionally, he served on the College of Science Advisory Board from 2013 to 2017. Ken is an honored alumnus of George Mason University, having graduated from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
Margaret M. (Peggy) Jones, BS ’82, served on the Board of Trustees for five years. Her leadership as co-chair of the Finance and Real Estate Committee over the past two years and her active involvement in the committee for five years have been instrumental. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the sale of Vernon Smith Hall to the university in 2023. Peggy is a proud alumna of our institution, having graduated from the Costello College of Business with a bachelor of science degree in 1982.
Dean Fernando Miralles-Wilhelm, served as a community representative on the Board of Trustees for two years and was an active member of the Advancement and University Priorities Committee. He served as the dean of George Mason’s College of Science and also served on the George Mason University President’s Council.
